Ladies and gentlemen, Joe Carnahan, Frank Grillo, & Gerard Bulter have returned to re-light the flame of old-school R-rated badass action with their new film “Copshop.” The film follows a con man (Grillo) who gets himself arrested to avoid dying at the hands of a frightful hitman (Butler). In true Carnahan fashion, blood, guts, and explosions occur, and the actors chew the hell out of the scenery. Frank Grillo returned to The Playlist Podcast to talk to the boys about a Grillo-Pad (our chosen name for Grillo’s fan group) could ever want.

During the conversation, Grillo was asked if he’d ever return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Crossbones or perhaps an alternate universe version of The Punisher.
“Can’t I do both? You know, I always felt like I didn’t get to finish what I started with the thing, and I was really pissed. I was like, ‘what a bunch of bullshit”… Because I was so ego-driven and up my ass. Grillo shared. “And I went and did…the 10th anniversary – I got onstage with every actor [and] Stan Lee before he had passed. And then I realized, I was like, ‘What am I saying?!’ Just the little that I’ve been in the Marvel Universe, the impact has been huge – for my career, globally. People don’t realize that Crossbones wasn’t really in the movie very long. To them, Crossbones might as well be Hawkeye or anybody else…But if there’s a world where Crossbones comes back, I’m in, man!”

Grillo also shared that he’s starring in a remake of the underseen Sylvester Stallone film “Nighthawks.”
“I’m doing a TV show with Sly [Stallone]. Remember the movie Nighthawks? It’s him and Rutger Hauer. We’re remaking it as a limited mini-series, and he’s going to direct me, and I’m going to play his role.” Grillo shared.
Before the chat was through, he confirmed that he is returning to “The Purge” universe one last time with creator/director James DeMonaco.
“Committed! We committed to doing that – Purge 6 with him [James DeMonaco] directing. It’s based on the Leo Barnes character. I’m excited. He’s going to send me the script. He just finished it. So, yeah, I’m really psyched about that. I love doing the Purge movies…I’m psyched; they called me and said James wanted to direct one more, and I’m like, ‘Don’t even tell me. I’m in.’”Grillo added.
“Copshop” hits theaters on September 17. You can listen to the entire conversation below.
