Normally, when we get teaser trailers for TV series, it’s before an already-scheduled premiere date on a streaming service or network. However, in the case of the upcoming “The Freak Brothers” animated series, we’re getting a “mini-episode” before the show even finds a streaming platform or network to debut on. But with a voice cast stacked like this, “The Freak Brothers” won’t have trouble finding a partner.
“The Freak Brothers” tells the story of Franklin Freek (Woody Harrelson), Fat Freddy Freekowtski (John Goodman), Phineas T. Phreakers (Pete Davidson), and their foul-mouthed cat, Kitty (Tiffany Haddish). The three stoners and their cat live in the free-love hippie era, but after smoking some mutated weed, the group wakes up 50 years later in a society that doesn’t look anything like the one they’re used to.
As mentioned, the series has an incredible voice cast, with some of the biggest names in comedy, but the mini-episode actually includes more folks such as Adam DeVine and Blake Anderson. “The Freak Brothers” is executive produced by Mark Canton and Courtney Solomon based on the underground comic that began in 1971, created by Gilbert Shelton.
There’s no release date or distributor lined up yet for “The Freak Brothers,” but we’ll likely hear more about that sooner rather than later.
Here’s the synopsis for the series:
In 1969, life in San Francisco consists of free love, communal living and political protest. Freewheelin’ Franklin Freek (Harrelson), Fat Freddy Freekowtski (Goodman), Phineas T. Phreakers (Davidson) and their mischievous, foul-mouthed cat, Kitty (Haddish) spend their days dodging many things — the draft, the narcs and steady employment – all while searching for an altered state of bliss. But after partaking of a genetically mutated strain of marijuana, the Freaks wake up 50 years later to discover a much different society. Quickly feeling like fish out of water in a high-tech world of fourth-wave feminism, extreme gentrification and intense political correctness, the Freaks learn how to navigate life in 2020 — where, surprisingly, their precious cannabis is now legal.
