It’s not often stories involving piracy have a happy ending but in the case of twitter user “omgamandaa” and Mirmax Films, that’s exactly how things panned out.
Last week, Amanda had the gall to to try her luck out and publicly tweet/ask for a torrent of the film “Adventureland” only to discover the strangest of audiences on the other end of her message: Miramax Films.
omgamandaa: “Ugh WHY IS ADVENTURELAND NOT ON TORRENTS YET.”
MiramaxFilms: “@omgamandaa Cmon Amanda, don’t do it. #adventureland #fbi.”
omgamandaa: “@MiramaxFilms okay i won’t, JUST FOR YOU.”
MiramaxFilms: “@omgamandaa Thanks Amanda. In return, I have a free Fandango card for 2 tix if you’re interested in Adventureland. Just DM us for the code.”
So, what’s the moral of this story? Piracy pays? Ask and you shall receive? No good deed goes unpunished? We’ll get back to you on that one, but publicly asking for a torrent on Twitter isn’t the smartest thing in the world (or wait, maybe it is). Not that we’re slamming Miramax, their tactic is forward-thinking, but still…
But what it does remind of us of is the end of the “Simpsons” called “Bart The Murderer.” After working for the Mafia for the whole episode, Bart proclaims: “Sorry Fat Tony. I use to think your gang was cool. But now I learned that crime doesn’t pay.” Fat Tony replies, “Yeah, you’re right,” only to walk away from court a free man to a parade of flashy limousines and personal henchmen.
Hey Amanda, you self-entitled tart, how about paying to see a movie for once. Better yet, why not just lift the money from your dad’s wallet instead of doing so from filmmakers who could use it.
