Freida Pinto Joins Michael Winterbottom's 'Trishna'

EXCLUSIVE: Michael Winterbottom‘s developing modern-day retelling of “Tess of the d’Urbervilles” continues to move forward and following yesterday’s news that Riz Ahmed (“The Road To Guantanamo,” “Four Lions“) had come aboard, another actor is now confirmed to be starring.

Reps for Freida Pinto have told The Playlist that she is set to take the female lead in Winterbottom’s upcoming film. Titled “Trishna,” the setting of Thomas Hardy‘s novel has been relocated to India and will follow the tragic relationship between Jay and Trishna — the son of a property developer, and the daughter of an auto rickshaw owner. You can read the full synopsis here but we warn you, it’s very spoiler heavy.

“Trisha” marks yet another interesting move from the chameleon like Winterbottom who continually shifts from genre to genre on each project, with intriguing results. No word yet on when it will go in front of cameras but according to production designer David Bryan, it will shoot in Jaipur, India.
