Let’s face it, the COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc all over the world in every industry, but the movie industry is especially getting hammered given that it’s all but shuttered everywhere. Today, in a big, not unexpected announcement, Disney announced the big shifting plans of all its summer movies, many of them currently without dates. As expected, all the Marvel movie dates have shifted and you can read about that all here, starting with “Black Widow” moved to the fall in slot originally intended for “Eternals.”
But there’s much more. One of the first big dramatic shifts is that for Kenneth Branagh’s kid-friendly fantasy adventure movie “Artemis Fowl.” Originally delayed a year and scheduled to come out this spring, the movie will now skip theatrical all together and premiere exclusively on Disney+. No release date has been given yet.
From Searchlight Pictures, now under the Disney banner, Wes Anderson’s “The Fresh Dispatch” has shifted from July 24 to Oct. 16 which means even if the Cannes Film Festival happens—unlikely—it’s a good bet, ‘French Dispatch,’ expected to debut there, will premiere at the festival.

Additionally, Disney-related moves, “The Personal History of David Copperfield” and “Antlers,” and 20th Century Pictures’ “Woman in the Window,” and “The New Mutants” all remain undated for now. New release dates to be announced soon.
