'Friday Night Lights' & 'Super 8' Star Kyle Chandler Heads To 'Broken City'

nullThough he's still best known as Coach Eric Taylor on "Friday Night Lights," Kyle Chandler has been taking some much deserved steps onto the big screen. This summer his was one of the biggest names amongst the mostly newcomer cast in J.J. Abrams' "Super 8" and this fall, he's been working on Ben Affleck's forthcoming "Argo." Well, he's lined up one more starry vehicle as he continues to put the yards between himself and the football drama.

Chandler has joined the cast of the promising "Broken City." Set to be directed by Allen Hughes, the dark tale follows Billy Taggart (Mark Wahlberg), an ex-cop thrown off the force after shooting a 16-year-old kid. Eight years on, he’s working as a private detective and is hired by the colorful incumbent (Russell Crowe) in the New York mayoral race to investigate his wife’s (Catherine Zeta-Jones) infidelity. Taggart, however, digs up much, much more, including a shady real estate deal that points to city corruption. Chandler will take on the role as a key member of the mayoral team behind Barry Pepper, who is slotted as the contender in the race. Jeffrey Wright, Griffin Dunne, James Ransone, Justin Chambers, Natalie Martinez and Alona Tal round out the cast.

This one begins rolling soon, but won't hit theaters until January 18, 2013. [Variety]
