For the first time in forever, we have an update on Disney’s highly anticipated “Frozen II.” Since 2013’s box office breaking original, industry insiders and fans alike have speculated as to when – and if – they could expect the next installment from the Kingdom of Arendelle. As early as 2014, prominent figures involved with the film’s production issued contrasting statements regarding a sequel, with “Frozen” producer Peter Del Vecho‘s alluding to the likelihood of a new project but Disney CEO Bob Iger refusing to make any promises. A new film would only go into development, executives said, if another brilliant story was ready to be told.
And now, it seems, that story is almost ready to hit screens worldwide. Disney has promised that audiences will experience a totally new adventure and, according to Kristen Bell, a tale “that needs to be told.” The principal cast of the first film, including Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Josh Gad, and Jonathan Groff, will step back into their beloved ice-kingdom roles. Much of the original crew, too, is on board: “Frozen II” will be directed by long-time Disney animator Christopher Buck (“Pocahontas,” “The Little Mermaid“) and Chief Creative Officer of Disney, Jennifer Lee (“Wreck-It Ralph,” “A Wrinkle in Time“). In 2014, Lee became the first female director with a film to gross more than $1 billion in the box office. With any luck, Disney will have an ‘open door’ to another grand success. We’ll have to await the November 22 release to see what accolades and catchy tunes “Frozen II” has in store for this winter.
Here’s the synopsis:

In “Frozen,” Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In “Frozen 2,” she must hope they are enough. From the Academy Award®-winning team—directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, producer Peter Del Vecho and songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez—and featuring the voices of Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff, and Josh Gad, Walt Disney Animation Studios’
“Frozen 2” opens in U.S. theaters on Nov. 22, 2019.
