'Funny People' Viral Vids & Posters For George Simmons Go Overkill Mode

While there’s still more to come in all likely hood (fake films called, “Mer-Man,“My Best Friend is a Robot” “Mistake“), we’re a little grateful that Judd Apatow and co. have released a big chunk of the fake movie/meta- material from “Funny People,” because we seriously don’t want to have to post this stuff every time. While we greatly await this dramedy about a dying comedian starring Adam Sandler, most of these fake scenes from films his famous stand-up comedian/actor are just not that funny. Frankly, we’re starting to worry about “Funny People,” a bit because aside from “Yo Teach,” starring Jason Schwartzman, most of these viral videos are largely phone-in and lol-challenged.

Here’s the film’s synopsis, btw: When seasoned comedian George Simmons (Sandler) learns of his terminal, inoperable health condition, his desire to form a genuine friendship cause him to take a relatively green performer (Seth Rogen) under his wing as his opening act.

The first fake film is called, “Sayonara Davey” and feature Sandler’s George Simmons in a broad, fish out of water comedy about an American (with a mullet of course) living with a Japanese family. It co-stars Ken Jeong, an Apatow bit player who made a big splash recently in “The Hangover.” The second meta-picture called, “Dog’s Best Friend,” is a “Turner & Hooch”-like cop/dog buddy dramedy that looks like it was shot in two hours on a lark. Oh wait, there’s a third, the previously mentioned “Mer-Man” co-starring Elizabeth Banks (though you don’t see here in this clip, only the poster)

All the posters for these films are here above and below, including a Fake Rolling Stone cover documenting George Simmons career. There are also other posters for films called, “Beer Guy,” “Champion,” a space comedy called, “Astro-Not,” “Little By Little,” a wilderness comedy with Duane Johnson called “Code Green”and the aforementioned “Re-Do” (the fake scene of which was shown yesterday) “Mer-Man,” My Best Friend is a Robot,” that co-stars the poorly photoshopped head of Owen Wilson. It goes without saying, but if they do viral videos for every one of these films that’s really going overboard. It feels like they’re trying to out-viral, “Tropic Thunder,” which might not be the best approach since the marketing of that one was funnier than the film itself. [George Simmons.com] Or perhaps we’ve gone overkill mode for posting all this stuff.
