Gal Gadot Shows Off Her Superhero Strength In New Trailer For 'Wonder Woman'

We’ve moved beyond the time when all we could expect from superheroes — on the page or at the movies — were spandex wearing men and women, who simply kicked a lot of ass. Writers and creators have become more ambitious, and audiences have demanded characters with full dimension and shape, which is why it’s not so unusual to hear Gal Gadot addressing the sexuality of Wonder Woman. The issue came up when longtime “Wonder Woman” writer Greg Rucka revealed his thoughts that the hero might be bisexual, given the time she spent on Themyscira, and Gadot agrees with that perspective.

“It’s not something we’ve explored. It never came to the table, but when you talk theoretically about all the women on Themyscira and how many years she was there, then what he said makes sense. In this movie she does not experience any bisexual relationships. But it’s not about that. She’s a woman who loves people for who they are. She can be bisexual. She loves people for their hearts,” she told Variety.

But as Gadot says, the movie will be taking sexual relationships off the agenda, and focus on the ass kicking. Joining her in the film are Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, David Thewlis, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner, and Saïd Taghmaoui, with the movie telling the origins of the hero. Here’s the official synopsis:

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Directed by Patty Jenkins, “Wonder Woman” opens on June 2, 2017.
