'Game Of Thrones' Fans Start Online Petition Begging HBO To "Remake" The Final Season...Days Before The Finale

Games of Thrones” fans are mere days away from the long-awaited series finale, which will likely crown the winner of the titular game and show who sits on the Iron Throne. However, the journey to get there has been bumpy, to say the least, as of late. After a couple of middling episodes, Season 8 has gone on to be one of the most polarizing seasons in the show’s history, leaving many fans disappointed to find out where the characters will end up come Sunday night.

So, since this is 2019 and because…the internet, fans have flocked to a new Change.org petition that begs HBO to “remake” this season of “Game of Thrones.” The details are scarce, as to how the fans expect the network to change things just several days before the finale airs. But alas, tens of thousands of folks demand it.

The petition states: “David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on. This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!”

Benioff and Weiss are the head writers and co-creators of the HBO series, which is based on an (unfinished) series of novels by author George R.R. Martin. The going theory online right now is that the worst seasons of “Game of Thrones” have come in the years where Benioff and Weiss have been venturing into plot territory not-yet-covered in the novels. And because the duo doesn’t have the guiding light of Martin showing them the error of their ways, ‘Thrones’ has gone from one of the best series in TV history to one of the most disappointing.

Earlier this week, I wrote about my feelings on last weekend’s episode, “The Bells.” Many, many, many folks did the same. While I tend to agree that Season 8 is a bit of a dumpster fire, in terms of characterization and plotting, I would argue that not even Martin’s finished books would help in any way. The main issue plaguing this season (and arguably Season 7) is the lack of time. With only six episodes, there just simply isn’t enough time to satisfactorily wrap up this epic saga. And sadly, shortcuts and sloppy pacing have been the foundation of this final season.

Unfortunately for these folks who are trying to use the power of numbers to voice their displeasure and “fix” things, no amount of signatures is going to change what has come before. And no amount of angry fans is going to prevent HBO from airing the series finale this Sunday. Instead, all you can hope for, at this point, is that lessons are learned for the upcoming spin-off(s).

But hey, if you’re psyched about this season, then you’ll likely enjoy two new photos that were released from the series finale:
