Over the course of the final season of “Game of Thrones,” it became abundantly clear that a large portion of the fanbase was not pleased. The first couple of episodes were fine, but they didn’t have that special feeling that fans were expecting. Then as the season progressed, fans began to turn on the series. And by the final two episodes, petitions were created, the outrage was felt all over social media, and “Game of Thrones” turned into the butt of many jokes, especially with its polarizing finale.
But what if another ending existed?
Well, according to a new interview with Metro, ‘Thrones’ actor Kristofer Hivju, who played Tormund Giantsbane, a fan-favorite in the series, revealed that an alternate ending was shot for “Game of Thrones.” But it’s likely not something that will ever see the light of day, as he says it was “mostly for fun.”
“Well, we shot an alternative ending,” he said. “That was mostly for fun but I don’t know if I’m allowed to tell you about that.”
When pressed about what that ending might have included, the actor kept mum on the details.
“I won’t tell you!” Hivju said. “But it was fun.”
The actor did continue to give his defense of the final season, and why he enjoyed Season 8 of “Game of Thrones.” Hivju agrees that everyone had their own theories about what might happen and that there were definitely some surprises that he didn’t see coming.
“The funny thing is after season seven I had my theories, fans ahead theirs’, everybody the cast had their theories so there were thousands of theories,” he added. “To choose one path would be difficult to say but there were many things I didn’t see coming; there was the element of surprise which I liked.”
