Things didn’t quite go as planned for HBO this summer with their shortened seventh season of “Game Of Thrones.” Hackers ruined the party for the penultimate season, cracking into HBO’s digital vault, and leaking episodes before they aired. You can bet the IT department got an earful from higher ups, and there’s no doubt more security is in place, but nonetheless, the team behind “Game Of Thrones” is going to go the extra mile to ensure nothing is spoiled for the big finale.
HBO’s President of Programming Casey Bloys has revealed that the plan is to shoot a few different iterations of the ending, to keep everyone their toes, and no one with the knowledge of how it’ll all wrap up.

“….they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that nobody really know what happens,” he told The Morning Call. “You have to do that on a long show. Because when you’re shooting something, people know. So they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that there’s no real definitive answer until the end.”
It’s not a unique approach — “Breaking Bad” and “The Sopranos” are among those that went down a similar path — but it’s one that ensures that Kit Harington (or whoever) won’t spoil who dies at the climatic sexy wedding dinner party orgy or whatever (I’ve never watched an episode, so just roll with me here). But this also means an entire season of fan theories about the final episode, but actually, that’s not really different from how things are now.
The eighth and final season of “Game Of Thrones” is expected to arrive in 2019.
