Gary Oldman Says: 'Batman 3' To Hit Theaters In 2011

A lot of noise is hitting the web about this comment Gary Oldman, Commissioner Gordon in geek parlance, made at ComicCon today. Oldman is there representing “The Book Of Eli,” a Hughes Brothers film (trailer came out yesterday) that he plays a villain in. Asked about the sequel to “The Dark Knight,” aka “Batman 3” as some are referring to it’s TBD title.

When asked about the next Batman film he said, “The next Batman is next year, so I think it is two years away. But you didn’t hear it from me.”

/Film who transcribed the quote infers that his quotes mean the film shoots in 2010 and will hit theaters in 2011 which make sense and they were there in the room and surely understand the context. And hey, that’s great, we’d love to see another Batman film by Christopher Nolan, but we’re not getting our hopes up just quite this second. There is a little thing called a script and “Inception” to get out of the way first.

One would think if “Batman 3” does shoot in 2010 it’ll probably late in the year after “Inception” hits in the summer, but timing is really anyone’s guess right now. Oldman saying the film will shoot next year doesn’t necessarily mean that’ll happen.
