“It’s the story of shame, cunning, thievery, dishonor, backstabbing, deceit, bold-faced lying, one-upmanship, psychological torture, lust, financial ruin, and magic, all supported by a very broad beam of dysfunctional love,” Will Arnett says about the upcoming season or batch of episodes or whatever-you-want-to-call-it of “Arrested Development.” And that’s just fine by us.
The Bluths are back on the cover of Entertainment Weekly, and while the print edition will probably have more info that the abridged online article, you already know that: these episodes will be differently formatted, focusing on individual characters, though storylines, gags and more will overlap. And yes, it’s bold gamble. “When Mitch [Hurwitz] started to get his arms around how all the action could happen simultaneously and there was an ability to stop one episode, start another, and have all this crossover and braided plotting, it became clear that he was going to try to accomplish something incredibly ambitious, the kind of escalation that the audience would expect from him,” Jason Bateman explains.
As for the new pics, they do open up some questions: has George Michael inherited the segway from Gob? Is Buster really going back to Army? Luckily, the wait is nearly over. “Arrested Development” returns on Netflix on May 26th. Prepare to binge.
