'Copshop': Gerard Butler & Frank Grillo Team With Joe Carnahan For A New Action Film

Taken separately, the names Gerard Butler, Frank Grillo, and Joe Carnahan all probably bring to mind macho, action-packed films. But combine the acting talent of Butler and Grillo with the filmmaking style of Carnahan, and you’re likely in for a film filled with so much testosterone that you might have to wipe yourself down after viewing it. Welcome to “Copshop.”

As recently announced, Butler and Grillo are set to star in Carnahan’s newest film, “Copshop.” The film, which is based on the script by Kurt McLeod, follows the story of two men who share a love of pottery making and go on an incredible wine-tasting tour in California where they discover so much about their lives. Yeah, no. Obviously, that’s a joke. The real synopsis sounds exactly like the type of film you’d expect from those involved:

“In “COPSHOP”, a small-town police station becomes the unlikely battleground between a professional hitman (Butler), a smart rookie female cop, and a double-crossing con man (Grillo), who seeks refuge behind bars with no place left to run.”

You can’t be surprised that Gerard Butler is in another action movie, at this point (he has a new one, “Greenland,” arriving in theaters this month, in fact). And whenever you get Frank Grillo and Joe Carnahan together, you know that there’s going to be plenty of violence. So, if that’s what you’re into, then “Copshop” is likely going to be a film that you won’t want to miss.

“WarParty is beyond excited to be teaming with Raven, Open Road, STX and G-BASE on ‘Copshop,’” said Grillo and Carnahan. “We feel that this is a movie that can play big globally but be made sensibly and we are always looking for this type of ‘elevated genre’ where the writing really drives the action and the drama. We also couldn’t be happier to have someone with the box-office power of Gerard Butler as our partner in crime on this film.”

“Copshop” is expected to go into production in October and will be released in US theaters by Open Road Films and around the world by STXinternational. So, if you were concerned post-pandemic productions wouldn’t have nearly the same amount of action as before, Butler, Grillo, and Carnahan are here to prove you wrong.
