Get Out, Lady Bird top 2018 WGA Awards Film Nominees

The Writer’s Guild of America announced the film and documentary nominees for the 2018 WGA Awards and many of the expected nominees made the cut. “Lady Bird,” “The Shape of Water,” “Get Out,” “I, Tonya” and “The Big Sick” were nominated in the Original Screenplay category.  “Call Me By Your Name,” “The Disaster Artist,” “Logan,” “Molly’s Game” and “Mudbound” all earned Adapted Screenplay nominations.

It’s worth noting that Martin McDonagh‘s “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” Lee Hall‘s “Victoria & Abdul” and Anthony McCarten‘s “Darkest Hour” were among the films not eligible for this year’s awards.  ‘Three Billboards’ and “The Post,” which was snubbed, are seen as likely candidates for Oscar’s version of the Original Screenplay category. Considering it won the New York Film Critics Circle award for Best Screenplay, among other honors, it’s also notable that Paul Thomas Anderson‘s “Phantom Thread” was snubbed in this category as well.

The WGA TV nominees were announced in early December.  The awards will be held on Sunday, Feb. 11 in concurrent ceremonies in New York and Los Angeles.
