At long last, we have a first look at the highly anticipated film “The Girl In The Spider’s Web.” After 2011’s “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” underperformed and director David Fincher notoriously butted heads with the studio, hopes for a sequel essentially died. But, some time has passed and a new book was written and Sony’s interest was reinvigorated. Now, the long-gestating sequel/reboot is so close and finally has a trailer.

“The Girl in the Spider’s Web” has had a long and complicated production history. It was reported that Sony was planning on reviving the series back in 2015 but without Fincher and stars Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig. Despite Mara expressing interest in returning, Sony moved forward with an entirely new cast. And the new ensemble they put together is pretty damn incredible. “Spider’s Web” stars Claire Foy, Sverrir Gudnason, Sylvia Hoeks, Claes Bang, Cameron Britton, LaKeith Stanfield, Vicky Krieps, and Stephen Merchant. Taking over directing duties from David freaking Fincher is no easy task, but Fede Álvarez seems ready for the task. Both of his previous feature films have been pretty well received by audiences and critics alike. His debut feature “Evil Dead” earned almost $100 million at the box office. He followed it up with “Don’t Breathe” holds an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes and took home $157 million. And leading lady Foy praised him saying that he “has an incredible ability to take an audience in a direction that they have no idea that they’re going in…”
The Playlist team is pretty excited for it to be released and even placed it on our top 100 most anticipated films of 2018 list. “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” opens November 9.
