Say what you will about “Girls” — and people have no shortage of opinions on Lena Dunham‘s show — the cast is pretty much uniformly excellent (Zosia Mamet forever) and one of those standouts is Allison Williams. Initially seen as the clean cut, rational and polar opposite to Hannah, the character of Marnie has gone on a fascinating journey, particularly as the less savory aspects of her personality have come to light. Talented, and yes, attractive as well, it was only a matter of time before Hollywood came knocking, and could she be making the leap to the tentpole world for one of her first feature film roles?
It’s a bit buried, but Deadline reveals that the actress is on the shortlist for Fox‘s brewing “Fantastic Four” reboot, though they stress it’s “in the very early talking stage.” It probably means her name is one of a handful on a list in some executive’s drawer, but still, it speaks to the profile “Girls” has given her. The reboot is set to be directed by “Chronicle” helmer Josh Trank, produced by Matthew Vaughn and penned by Seth Grahame-Smith, so it’s certainly bringing some firepower. So, Allison Williams as Invisible Woman….thoughts? Fox has some time to make a decision as the movie isn’t due until March 6, 2015.
Meanwhile, Williams won’t just be sitting by the phone, as she’s taken the lead in the forever developing “Rosaline.” The movie, which has already seen Hailee Steinfeld and Lily Collins come and go, is based on Rebecca Serles’ recently published novel “When You Were Mine,” and retells the “Romeo & Juliet” story in a contemporary high school, and pitches it through the eyes of Rosaline, the unseen girl Romeo is lovestruck by at the beginning of the play. It’s been adapted by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber (“(500) Days of Summer” and “Pink Panther 2”), and “The Vow” director Michael Sucsy will get behind the camera. Here’s hoping they’ve updated it to college setting, because Williams in high school? Sorry, don’t buy it.
