Go Into The Jungle With New Images From James Gray's 'The Lost City Of Z'

“I don’t miss the jungle. It was pretty but I don’t miss it,” Tom Holland said this fall about the making of “The Lost City Of Z.” The young actor was part of the ensemble, led by Charlie Hunnam and Robert Pattison, who joined James Gray‘s movie about British explorer Percy Fawcett’s journey into the South American jungle. And the director himself backs up Holland for not wanting to go back.

“It was horrible, of course you shouldn’t miss it!” he said, adding: “….I’m genetically engineered to be an accountant in the shtetl, so when you put me in 100 degrees at 100% humidity and gloves and the whole thing, with snakes and crocodiles… it was ridiculous!”

But the shoot was perhaps the most arduous on Hunnam who faced caimans and bugs that bit the inside of his ear while on location. Even more, he nearly saw a relationship fall apart, though that was mostly his own fault.

“We went to Colombia, and the mail system doesn’t really work very well. It’s completely unreliable. I received a letter from her, and I realized that from the tone of it and things she was saying that she hadn’t received the two letters that I sent before,” the actor said. His solution? To stop writing entirely, and dive into playing an explorer who has severely lost his way.

“Which obviously makes me sound like a total bastard, appropriately so,” Hunnam added. “But I was very apologetic.”

“The Lost City Of Z” opens on April 14th. Check out new images from the film below.lost-city-of-z
