With “Alice In Wonderland” crushing the box office this past weekend, it seems that audiences don’t care if a 3D movie is actually shot in the format, or just a cheapo conversion that adds nothing to an already dead-eyed film.
The next film adaptation to get the 3D treatment is — wait for it — The Bible. That’s right, the word of God is going to get whored out in the latest fad sweeping Hollywood. Family friendly Walden Media are teaming up with Paramount Pictures for “In The Beginning” which will tell the story of Adam & Eve. Wow, nothing like the story of creation and original sin in 3D to make for a fun afternoon at the movies! The modestly budgeted $30 million dollar film will get the greenlight once test footage from Reel FX gets the approval of studio honchos. TV director David Cunningham will direct from a script by John Fusco (“Hidalgo,” “The Babe”).
We’re going to save our tirade against flimsy 3D for another day, but we’ll use this opportunity to point out that the “Iron Man 2” trailer which debuted last night to approval from pretty much everyone didn’t need 3D. It’s amazing what things like oldfashioned storytelling and fun performances can do….
