'Godzilla 2' Sets 2018 Release Date

GodzillaWith a massive slate of DC Comics movies and event films already plotted until 2020, Warner Bros. keeps bringing the noise, blood and thunder, announcing a release date today for the inevitable "Godzilla" sequel.

"Godzilla 2: Maybe We’ll See More Godzilla This Time" will be released on June 18, 2018, at which time the film will square off against Untitled Pixar Animation Movie. Gareth Edwards‘ take on the classic giant radioactive reptile template stomped its way to gross over $500 million worldwide, which isn’t bad for a monster movie with more Aaron Taylor-Johnson therein than monsters. At Comic-Con, Edwards was confirmed to return to direct the sequel, which will double triple down on the mayhem, with Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah all promised to appear and to smash, natch. No word yet if any surviving cast members will return for the followup.

But until then, Edwards will get cracking on his "Star Wars" spinoff movie slated to hit theatres in 2016, so it looks like his calendar is pretty damn busy with two major franchises for the foreseeable future. [Deadline]
