Back in 1990, rapper LL Cool J (he wasn’t an actor, yet) had a mega-hit single, “Mama Said Knock You Out,” which featured the artist dressed in boxing gear and threatening to punch people. At this point, do you really need something else to sell you on the upcoming ‘Godzilla’ sequel? Seriously, you know what to expect. There’s going to be skyscraper-sized monsters fighting each other to the death, with countless humans trying to pretend that anything they do is relevant. Basically, if you’ve seen one ‘Godzilla’ film, then you know what you’re getting yourself into. We doubt that a ‘90s rap song is going to push you over the edge.
But, maybe you are on the fence. The promise of a giant lizard fighting a three-headed beast, crushing buildings in their wake, might not be enough to get your cold, dead heart to skip a beat. Okay, fair enough. So, it’s clear that Warner Bros. needed to spice things up a bit, and the classic rap song might be that extra kick in the pants you require.
Either way, you should probably watch the new trailer below because it’s really fun, if not a little strange. It’s just silly enough that it works.
The new film stars Vera Farmiga, Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown, O’Shea Jackson, Jr., Ken Watanabe, and a variety of massive, CGI creatures.
“Godzilla: King of the Monsters” arrives in theaters on May 31.
