The production processes behind cinematic adaptations of Neil Gaiman’s work are something of a mixed bag; sometimes you’ll end up with a smooth behind-the-scenes experience, with films like “Coraline” and “Stardust” that remain classic and aren’t overshadowed by any production drama.
On the other hand, sometimes you’ll get an uncomfortably public spectacle. For example, the endless development of “The Sandman,” with constantly departing directors, writers, and stars (most notably Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who was to serve as all three) has taken over the public perception of the project, as has the non-stop creative drama of “American Gods,” which has had an onslaught of very public replacements despite a stellar first season.
That’s why, after years of languishing in development hell, it’s refreshing to see that things on the new BBC and Amazon Studios adaptation of “Good Omens,” based on the book by Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett, seem to be going pretty smoothly. In fact, as a behind-the-scenes teaser released in July showed, everyone on set, especially stars David Tennant and Michael Sheen, seems to be having the time of their lives bringing the classic fantasy-comedy novel to the small screen.
Now, after an appearance at New York Comic Con, the full trailer for the six-episode miniseries has dropped. You can watch the trailer and read the synopsis below.
With Armageddon just days away, the armies of Heaven and Hell are amassing and The Four Horsemen are ready to ride. Aziraphale, an angel, and Crowley, a demon, agree to join forces to find the missing Anti-Christ and to stop the war that will end everything. Based on the best-selling novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, Good Omens follows an unlikely duo and their quest to save the world.
Joining Tennant, playing the demon Crowley, and Sheen, playing the angel Aziraphale, is Jon Hamm, playing the Archangel Gabriel, Ilan Galkoff as Brian, Sam Taylor Buck as Adam Young, and Simon Merrells as Lesley. Gaiman wrote the entire series and also serves as an executive producer, and Douglas Mackinnon (“Sherlock,” “Doctor Who”) directed the entire series.
