As Netflix grows and matures, some trends are becoming readily apparent with the service’s Originals. One of those trends is the fact that the streaming service would much rather cancel a show early and move onto the next series if something isn’t working out, and if Netflix does find itself with a hit on its hands, as with “Grace and Frankie,” the streamer likes to make sure it’s wrapped up by Season 7 or so.
And as we enter 2020, “Grace and Frankie” returns for its sixth (and penultimate) season, as Netflix begins its long goodbye to the series that features the acting legends Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, as they deal with the ups and downs of life after a certain age.
The new trailer for Season 6 shows that there’s been a status quo change in the relationship between the besties in the title. One of the two women has found a new marriage while the other must deal with the ramifications of losing part of their relationship to the new person.
Season 6 of “Grace and Frankie” hits Netflix on January 15.
Here’s the synopsis:
In Grace and Frankie, Jane Fonda (“Grace”) and Lily Tomlin (“Frankie”) star as two women whose lives are turned upside down when their husbands reveal they are gay and leave them for each other. Both sparring partners and partners-in-crime, Grace and Frankie form an unlikely and unbreakable bond and face their uncertain futures head-on, hand-in-hand. Together with their ex-husbands and children, they discover the true definition of “family,” with laughter, tears and plenty of mood enhancers along the way.
