The director behind “Superbad” and the upcoming coming-of-age comedy “Adventureland,” Greg Mottola has officially signed on to direct Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in “Paul,” their latest self-penned road-trip film. We reported on this back in August, but earlier this week it was made final when Mottola officially signed a deal with Universal Pictures.
The British duo, Pegg and Frost (“Shawn of the Dead” “Hott Fuzz”) penned the script themselves, and it revolves around two English slackers who take a trip to Comic-Con but wind up in Area 51 attempting to help an alien, named Paul, get back to his home planet.
We are curious to see if Mottola can refine the rambling, often overdone style of the two Brits. Judging from his genius work on the hilarious “Superbad,” and how promising the upcoming “Adventureland” looks, it seems as though he should be able to raise the bar for the two clowns. Principal photography is set to begin this spring in New Mexico.
