Is our disdain predictable a mile away? That’s perfectly ok, because oh brother… The “Date Night” trailer has arrived. It’s about a case of mistaken identity that turns a bored married couple’s (Tina Fey, Steven Carell) attempt at a glamorous and romantic evening into something more thrilling and dangerous.
The team-up of these two comedians is an inspired pairing, but as directed by Shawn Levy (known for his admirable masterworks “Night at the Museum,” and “Cheaper By the Dozen”), this sort of looks like its geared for that exact audience; married couples that don’t have much going on and generally don’t go to theater that often. It looks safe, generic, broad and mildly thrilling to net as many flies as possible.
The picture’s strength is an all-star cast that features Mark Wahlberg, Kristen Wiig, Mark Ruffalo, James Franco, Mila Kunis, Leighton Meester, Ray Liotta, Taraji P. Henson, Common and more, but really, if you’re looking at this thing and thinking, “I must see this,” you were probably also a regular viewer of “Everybody Loves Raymond” when it was still on TV (perhaps you still tune in for those re-runs). “Date Night” hits theaters April 9, 2010. Good luck. Watch it over at Apple, or watch the embed below.
