You asked for it, America. As mind-numbingly shitty as it was, "Grown Ups" made over $162 million at home, contributing to over $270 million worldwide. It didn't take a genius at Sony to figure out that if Adam Sandler is going to make his first sequel, it might as well be for one of his biggest box office hits. But at least they are adding some fresh blood.
While "Project X" was pretty forgettable and one-dimensional (though if we were fifteen, we would've loved it), the film's standout star was Oliver Cooper, who played the motor-mouthed best bud Costa. We're not at all surprised that Hollywood sat up and took notice, as he's joining Sandler and his cohorts for "Grown Ups 2." Plot details (hahahahahahahahaha) are not yet known but Cooper will play — get this — "a frat boy type." No shit.
THR adds that Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Salma Hayek and Maya Rudolph are all set to return. What? No Rob Schneider!?!!?!?! Sandler's BFF Dennis Dugan will direct this latest all-expenses-paid vacation, and it hits theaters on July 12, 2013.
