We know that Guillermo del Toro has signed on to write and direct a stop-motion version of “Pinocchio” for Netflix. However, the filmmaker has also signed a deal to produce films for Fox Searchlight, after the success of “The Shape of Water.” And it appears that one of his first films finds the filmmaker working in the horror genre once again, remaking the 2018 Argentinian film “Terrified,” according to Deadline.
Written and directed by Demián Rugna, the original film was a breakout success for the filmmaker over the last year, making the film festival rounds, playing at Fantasia Fest and Austin Fantastic Fest, where it won the Best Horror Film award. The film follows a group of investigators who are looking into reports of evil lurking in homes on a suburban street. The film ups the ante from other haunted house entries, by including multiple homes that seem to contain evil entities.
Del Toro is set to produce the film, with Rugna coming back to direct the English-language remake. Sacha Gervasi is signed on to write the remake. You may remember some of Gervasi’s previous work, which includes “Anvil! The Story of Anvil,” “The Terminal,” “Hitchcock,” and most recently, HBO’s “My Dinner with Hervé.”
There’s no release date set for the remake of “Terrified,” but with the talent involved, we’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for this horror flick.
Here’s the synopsis for the original film and the trailer:
On an ordinary suburban street in Buenos Aires, voices are heard from kitchen sinks. Bodies are levitating. Evil is here. It is up to a doctor, her colleague, an ex-cop to get to the bottom of this neighborhood nightmare. Demian Rugna’s must-see TERRIFIED is one of the scariest movies of 2018.
