Though it’s been over four years since a Guillermo Del Toro-helmed film has graced the big screen, he hasn’t been resting on his laurels. Amidst all the projects he has lined up to direct himself, the Mexican filmmaker has also turned to producing interesting projects by promising up-and-coming filmmakers. Earlier this year it was announced that Del Toro would be producing CG-animated film “Day Of The Dead,” and now THR is reporting that Fox Animation Studios has come aboard to make the movie.
Now titled "Book Of Life," the film is centered around the Mexican holiday of Day of the Dead, will be helmed by Jorge R. Guiterrez (Nickelodeon TV series “El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera”), and is described as a “Romeo and Juliet”-style love story set against the holiday as a backdrop.
If this sounds a bit familiar, that's because Pixar has their own Dia de los Muertos-themed project in the works with “Toy Story 3” director Lee Unkrich at the helm (hence the title change). While that film is tentatively scheduled for release sometime in 2015, “Book of Life” will hit theaters first on October 10, 2014.
