While Guillermo del Toro has branched out a little bit from his strict horror roots in films such as the recent noir “Nightmare Alley” and the upcoming “Pinocchio” stop-motion animated feature, the filmmaker is coming to Netflix with a new anthology series, “Cabinet of Curiosities,” that will fully embrace his love of terrifying audiences.
As seen in the teaser for “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities,” the new Netflix series is an anthology show that will be comprised of eight different stories from eight of the most respected names in horror. Each story is meant to push the horror genre in interesting new directions with star-studded casts, as well.
The teaser doesn’t do much in the way of showing footage or hinting at what is to come. Instead, the teaser is all about vibes. Haunting music and macabre images give the viewer the not-so-subtle clue that there is nothing fun and cheery on display. Del Toro is going for straight horror and he’s bringing some big names to help.

The first batch of ‘Curiosities’ includes episodes directed by folks such as Jennifer Kent, David Prior, Guillermo Navarro, Keith Thomas, Panos Cosmatos, Catherine Hardwicke, Vincenzo Natali, and Ana Lily Amirpour. Clearly, when del Toro comes calling, talented people pick up the phone. The casts of these stories include Rupert Grint, Essie Davis, Luke Roberts, Andrew Lincoln, Ben Barnes, Crispin Glover, Tim Blake Nelson, Peter Weller, and Sofia Boutella, among others.
A release date has yet to be revealed for “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities.” However, the series is expected to debut sometime this year. You would guess around Halloween, perhaps?
