The marketing machine (or should that be the Stark-eting machine?…no? Sorry…) behind “Iron Man 3” is now working at full capacity so expect to be bombarded with little bits and pieces from the Marvel three-quel between now and its April/May release date (and a new trailer next week, fyi). Disney will have high expectations for Shane Black’s take on Tony Stark, and its performance should give us a good gauge of just how much of a boost the $1.5 billion-grossing “The Avengers” will give each of the standalone Marvel movies. With the first two “Iron Man” movies grossing $585 million and $624 million respectively, there’s still the slim possibility that Marvel could have another billion dollar hit on their hands this summer.
So, the marketing bombardment makes a lot of sense then, and the latest batch of promotional material comes in the form of three new images. They don’t tell us an awful lot, but what they do confirm is that a smug-looking Guy Pearce looks awesome in a suit. So yeah, we’ve got Pearce’s Aldrich Killian walking into Stark Industries much to the chagrin of Pepper Potts, Tony and Rhodey looking at something off camera with varying levels of concern, and a beat-up Tony working on something at a desk.
Live For Films rightly wonders why Tony would be wearing an A.I.M t-shirt in that second image – A.I.M of course being a terrorist organization in the comics. If we had to guess, we’d bet that Killian’s company initially appear legit in the new film and want to do business with Tony, with it only being revealed to him later on what an evil bunch they actually are. But hey, who knows, maybe Tony Stark just really likes the logo? We’ll find out on 3rd May, or a week earlier in most international territories.
