Thanks to being released in the winter of 2020, “The Gentlemen” narrowly avoided being caught up in the pandemic shutdown of the cinemas around the world. And because of that, the modestly-budgeted Guy Ritchie crime film was able to turn a tidy little profit at the box office. Now, Miramax is ready to see if that success will translate to the small screen.

According to Deadline, Ritchie has signed on to write and direct a new limited series inspired by his most recent film, “The Gentlemen.” While the exact details of the series are still unknown, the film follows the story of an American marijuana kingpin in London that was attempting to leave the business, which led to a mad dash by various other criminals to take over the profitable sales of the drug in his absence.
“Miramax Television is thrilled to break new creative ground in our partnership with Guy Ritchie on ‘The Gentlemen,’” said Miramax’s Head of Worldwide Television, Marc Helwig. “One of the most distinctive and prolific filmmakers working today and someone whose creativity I have admired for many years, we couldn’t be more excited to bring the cinematic journey of ‘The Gentlemen’ forth into the realm of global premium television.”
The ‘Gentlemen’ TV series would mark Ritchie’s first real foray into the world of writing and directing episodic television. However, it’s unclear when production might start, as the filmmaker has a pretty busy schedule ahead of him. He’s apparently putting the finishing touches on a new thriller starring Jason Statham, and he’s already signed on to reteam with Statham again in a spy thriller, “Five Eyes.” But maybe he’ll be able to squeeze in “The Gentlemen” in between the films? We shall see.
