You had to kind figure and we did express ample skepticism, but it appears that alleged Guy Ritchie remake of the 1955 musical, “Guys & Dolls” potentially starring Justin Timberlake is just bullshit.
Apparently when the estate of Frank Loesser — the man who wrote the music and lyrics to the original Broadway play — heard about this alleged news they were troubled. They still owned the rights to the project and had never heard a peep from Ritchie or his people.
So their attorney who reps the estate queried Ritchie’s reps, the filmmaker was as surprised as everyone else. According to DealMemo, “Ritchie has never claimed to be directing the film. The stories were chalked up to the imagination of the tabloids.”
“I can’t tell you what is happening, but I can tell you what is not happening, and that is this Guy Ritchie version,” their attorney said after checking in with camp Ritchie. Well, put that rumor to rest officially. Bit of a shame. We’d rather see Ritchie try his energetic hand at a musical than see him phone-in another caper film or, ugh, even worse, direct a “Sherlock Holmes” sequel.
