Warner Bros. can’t seem to go a year without delaying a blockbuster movie. In 2014, it was "Jupiter Ascending," which at the last minute got rescheduled from summer of that year to February 2015, and it’s perfectly clear why. This year, the studio moved the release of "Pan" from summer to October, and again, there was a very definite reason. And now, the studio is pushing the release of another summer movie back. You see a pattern developing?
Guy Ritchie‘s "Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur" has been bumped from a primo July 22, 2016 debut to the netherworld of February 17, 2017. Yet Ritchie thinks his movie, starring Charlie Hunnam, has got the goods. “I think where the pitfall has often been is trying to make King Arthur bland and nice,” he told EW in July. “The two qualities make rather compatible bed companions. Unfortunately, they’re not interesting to watch. Luke Skywalker was always the most uninteresting character in ‘Star Wars’ because he’s the good guy. Good guys are boring.”
We’ll see how audiences respond to Ritchie’s badass King Arthur, which I presume won’t be too far off from his badass Sherlock Holmes.
In other release date news, Sony has slated their 3D animated Spider-Man movie for December 21, 2018. That will be roughly 18 months after Marvel‘s live action solo movie which arrives on July 28, 2017. So we’ll have two different cinematic Spider-Men within the space of less than two years.
Meanwhile, the studio also has something called "The Emoji Movie 3D" (wtf) arriving on August 11, 2017 and "Peter Rabbit" on March 23, 2018.
