'Hanna' Teaser: Joe Wright's Teen Assassin Film Gets The TV Treatment Thanks To Amazon

Hanna” is a film that many cinephiles probably have already forgotten about. Starring the Oscar-nominated Saoirse Ronan as the titular character, the film features a teen assassin on the run from the government. The film was only a modest hit, but that was enough for Amazon to take the premise and adapt it for TV.

In the new teaser for the TV adaptation of “Hanna,” we don’t get anything really in the way of plot. Instead, the footage focuses merely as an origin, of sorts, with baby Hanna being kidnapped as an infant from the hospital. What people who have seen the movie already know is that she’ll be trained by her ex-CIA dad to become a killer and will soon go on the run.

The original film featured the acting talents of Cate Blanchett and Eric Bana. However, the Amazon series will replace those actors with Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman. This duo is exciting, considering they had previously worked together on the TV series “The Killing,” which started off great but fizzled out. Enos will play the government agent sent to track the young Hanna, and Kinnaman will play the teen’s father.

The series is directed by Sarah Adina Smith, who is probably best known for her work on the film “Buster’s Mal Heart.” She’s joined by writer David Farr, who will pen the series and was a co-writer on the original film. Since “Hanna,” Farr has also written the critically-acclaimed series “The Night Manager.”

So, while the new series lacks the star power of the original film, there’s enough talent involved with Amazon’s “Hanna” TV series that we’re anxiously awaiting the debut on the streaming service. Amazon is scheduled to launch “Hanna” sometime in March.
