Harrison Ford Has A Simple Answer For Who Can Replace Him In 'Indiana Jones' Franchise: "Nobody"

Harrison Ford has never been known to be the warmest and affectionate man on a movie set. So, it’s no surprise that during interviews, he’s willing to say things that might not be what the studio would like to hear. And in the case of talking about the future of the “Indiana Jones” franchise, Ford says things that really echoes what many fans have said over the last few years.

Speaking to the Today Show, Ford was asked the question that he’ll likely hear for the rest of his life: Who does he think would be a worthy replacement for him as the titular character in the ‘Indy’ franchise?

“Nobody is going to be Indiana Jones,” said Ford, grabbing the shoulder of the interviewer, as to stress the answer. “Don’t you get it? I’m Indiana Jones. When I’m gone, he’s gone. It’s easy!”

Honestly, it’s difficult to say whether or not Ford was being facetious or not with his answer, as it sure does look like he’s 100% honest in his response. Of course, as mentioned, this is a response that is sure to delight many different fans of the franchise. Gone are the days of truly great “Indiana Jones” films, with the fourth film, ‘Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,’ failing to reinvigorate the franchise and launch it into a new era.

“This is a hell of a way to tell Chris Pine this. I’m sorry, man,” Ford jokingly said, referring to the fact that Pine has been one of the names that get brought up from time to time as a worthy actor for the role.

We’ll have to find out if Lucasfilm and Disney are truly ready to let the “Indiana Jones” franchise die with Ford’s eventual departure. They’ve already signed on for one more film, the long-delayed ‘Indy 5,’ with Steven Spielberg and Ford returning. Many assumed that Lucasfilm would use that film as a springboard into a new version of the franchise. Perhaps, that’s still the case, just with Ford taking the ‘Indiana Jones’ name with him.

We already heard rumblings from some fans hoping that a female takes over the mantle. Spielberg has already spoken out about this idea, saying that it wouldn’t be the same.

Guess we’ll have to find out when ‘Indiana Jones 5’ hits theaters (hopefully) on July 9, 2021.
