'Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows' Coming To 3D; 'Clash Of The Titans' Decision Comes Soon

So you ask is the 3D fad here to stay? Uhh, $1.843 billion dollars in “Avatar” receipts says hell yes.

Last week we discussed the possibility that Warner Bros. might awesome-ify Louis Leterrier’s “Clash of The Titans” film starring action cut-out Sam Worthington, by doing a last minute rendering/tweaking into the 3D format to cash in on those “Avatar” bucks.

Well, apparently WB hasn’t made that decision yet, but the testing has evidently gone so well they already decided that the two-part “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” will be released in 3D according to THR. It’s weird to think of films that are not shot in 3D, being pushed up into that stereoscopic format (like ‘Titans’ and “Deathly Hallows’). Won’t they pale in comparison to films actually shot in 3D like “Avatar”? Well, we’ll soon find out if audiences balk or not, but considering how much the ham n’ eggers’ loved the simplistic, “Avatar” we assume they probably won’t have issues here.

But basically studios have seen these numbers, shared them with their shareholders and can barely contain their drooling at the thought of those mega-bucks. Fox has basically had a banner year now thanks to the James Cameron film. Anything that happened in 2009 before that doesn’t even matter.

So yes, you can pretty much guess from here on in, every tentpole this side of mildly expensive will likely either shoot in 3D or will be upgraded for release. Happy Hollywood? Evidently the decision whether to biggify “Clash of The Titans” or not will come next Tuesday and if it happens the film’s release will be pushed — as we suspected — by a week until April 2nd. We await with bated breath that you can probably almost reach out and touch if you’re wearing those dorky 3D glasses that make you feel like you have a safety helmet on and therefore mentally challenged in some manner.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” – Part 1 hits theaters November 19 of this year. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” arrive on July 15, 2011. “Clash of the Titans” is set to be released on March 26, but if that last minute 3D tweaks do happen, again, it’ll likely hit April 2nd at the earliest.
