Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse for Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced film producer gets hit with three new felony charges and could face life in prison.
According to a new report, Weinstein was indicted earlier today on three more charges stemming from his behavior with women in the last couple decades. These new charges are linked to an unknown woman in 2006, who alleges that the producer forcibly performed oral sex on her. Now, he faces one more count of criminal sexual act in the first degree and two counts of predatory sexual assault. Those latter crimes carry a potential sentence of 10 years to life in prison.
“A Manhattan Grand Jury has now indicted Harvey Weinstein on some of the most serious sexual offenses that exist under New York’s Penal Law,” District Attorney Cy Vance said in a statement. “This indictment is the result of the extraordinary courage exhibited by the survivors who have come forward. Our investigation continues. If you are a survivor of the predatory abuse with which Mr. Weinstein is charged, there is still time to pursue justice. Please call us at 212-335-9373.”
These new charges are added to the three previous sex crime charges that he was indicted for earlier this year. Those charges carry a maximum of 25 years in prison. However, it’s clear these new sets of charges are the most severe and if convicted, it could mean that he will serve the rest of his life in a cell.
Weinstein is currently out on bail, based on the initial arrest, but there is no trial date set at this time.
