It’s been almost a year and a half since season 7 of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” aired its finale. Since then, fans have been anxiously awaiting the final six episodes of the series that will somehow tie up the seemingly endless number of storylines in the show. And making matters worse, HBO has been mum about any release dates for the eighth and final season. That is, until now.
That’s right, HBO has released a new teaser for “Game of Thrones” Season 8 and with it, comes the release date. Unfortunately, neither the teaser footage or the release date give any specifics about season 8, but we do know that the final season will hit in April 2019. The exact date is still unknown. And the teaser, while it definitely teases, only uses footage from the previous seven seasons. So sadly, nothing new there.
So far, everything we’ve heard about the upcoming season 8 is how massive in scale the series is going. Never one to skimp on production value, “Game of Thrones” is apparently upping the ante considerably with the latest batch of episodes, which reportedly cost approximately $15 million each. One episode, keeping with the tradition of “Battle of the Bastards,” is one large battle sequence that apparently took almost two months of night shoots and weeks more interior shooting to complete.
So even though the new teaser doesn’t offer any new footage, all that really matters is that fans can finally mark April 2019 as the month when the first of six episodes hit HBO.
