2021 is almost coming to a close, 2022 is right around the corner, so it’s time for streamers and cable channels like HBO and HBO Max to start hawking their wares for next year. You’ve probably already seen our annual Most Anticipated TV Shows and Mini-Series of 2022 feature, and if some of that stuff seemed a little abstract, having no visual context, well, a lot of that has now arrived to help you orient yourself to what’s coming.

Perhaps the biggest shows teased are either the ones coming super soon or the super event series later in the year. Max Original series “Peacemaker,” starring John Cena as the compellingly vainglorious character Peacemaker from “The Suicide Squad” arrives in January, so that’s front and center. The “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts,” a capstone event of the holiday season celebrating the anniversary of the franchise’s first film “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” along with Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, and other legendary cast members, is coming soon so that gets a lot of screentime. And new, highly-anticipated HBO Originals in the line-up include “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty,” a fast-break series chronicling the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers, one of sports’ most revered and dominant dynasties, and “House of The Dragon,” telling the story of House Targaryen 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones” (we know the latter arrives in the spring, but we still don’t know the release time frame of “House Of The Dragon”).

Keen-eyed viewers can also spot never-before-seen footage from anticipated titles including new Max Original series “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin,” “Julia,” and more. Exciting for us is new footage from “Love & Death,” starring Elisabeth Olsen, a series from David E. Kelley and Nicole Kidman and Lionsgate Television, co-starring Jesse Plemons, Lily Rabe, Patrick Fugit, Krysten Ritter, and more, and new HBO Originals “The Time Traveler’s Wife” starring “Game Of Thrones” alumnus Rose Leslie and the limited series “The White House Plumbers,” starring Woody Harrelson, Justin Theroux, Domhnall Gleeson, and Lena Headey.
Also exciting is the first look of David Simon‘s new Baltimore crime series “We Own This City,” created by George Pelecanos and Simon (“The Wire“) duo and director Reinaldo Marcus Green (“King Richard“). It stars Jon Bernthal, Josh Charles, and Jamie Hector. Another nice surprise is a first look at “Our Flag Means Death,” a new period pirate series from Taika Waititi. He co-stars as Blackbeard and the series also features Rhys Darby, Rory Kinnear Ewen Bremner, and recurring guests like Leslie Jones, Nat Faxon, Fred Armisen, and Samba Schutte.
First looks are also included from acclaimed returning HBO Originals “Westworld,” “His Dark Materials,” and “The Nevers,” and Max Originals “The Flight Attendant” and “Raised by Wolves.” Additionally, the spot introduces Warner Bros. Streaming Exclusives, a collaboration that includes a number of films made exclusively for HBO Max. “House Party,” “Father of The Bride,” Steven Soderbergh‘s “Kimi” with Zoe Kravitz, which recently received a Feb 2022 release date, “The Fallout,” “Scoob: Holiday Haunt,” and “Moonshot” are among the films set to debut throughout 2022.
