Heard 'Em Say: Post-Toronto Film Festival Edition, Rian Johnson Admits To Stealing From Wes Anderson And More...

We did quite a bit of coverage during this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, but in its wake we have had time to scan through interviews with the stars and creative teams behind the films and found some amusing and interesting highlights we initially missed. They range from Rian Johnson talking about his semi-plagiaristic new film, to Mickey Rourke discussing his on set frustration with Darren Aronofsky’s direction and even Kevin Smith discussing his homo-erotic observations from the set of “Zach and Miri Make a Porno.” Kudos to Spout for some much heavy lifting.

“Well, I think it is…Yeah, I’m a big Wes Anderson fan, and I’m very flattered by the comparison.” – Rian Johnson says his Wes Anderson-heavy “The Brothers Bloom” film was heavily influenced by Wes Anderson. We’re glad he admitted it, cause we were sure we saw that too. [Spout]

“Quite frankly, I am proud of my own work in this and I have never ever ever been about to say that to myself about another performance.” Anne Hathaway on her acclaimed performance in “Rachael Getting Married,” while admitting her previous roles haven’t been exactly satisfying. [Spout]

“He is a thinker and an action man, and that’s a complication right there. In most movies, you have got the thinking guy and guy have got the action guy. He is all wrapped up in one.” — Benico Del Toro on how his role of Che Guevarra in Steven Soderbergh’s “Che,” was his most difficult and complex character to play of his career. [Premiere]

“I met him, and he was incredibly sweet, bright, dry wit, who was very soulful and seemed good for the part. And he’s cute as hell. I want to eat him. — Peter Sollet, director of “Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist,” talking about the irresistible charm of Michael Cera. [Spout]

“Here’s a guy whose only exercise he ever did was lifting his fork to his mouth, and he’s going, ‘C’mon, Mickey, you’re only giving me 50 percent!’ That’s part of his thing, to push my buttons.” — Mickey Rourke admits before “The Wrestler,” he was a lazy, fat fuck, but thanks to the aggressive and annoying direction of Darren Aronofsky, he toughed it out and gave a killer performance. Maybe if Mickey wins the Oscar, he should explicitly thank Aronofsky’s asshole-nish. [MTV]

“There hasn’t been one. I mean they’re all about soldiers reintegrating into the home front.” — “The Hurt Locker” director, Kathryn Bigelow on the reason no one has given a shit about Iraq war films so far: not enough explosions. Her critically acclaimed film comes out summer of 2009. [Spout]

“I’ve seen that dude’s dick, more than I’ve seen my own to be honest with you. And in this movie, that’s the biggest I’ve ever seen his dick.” — Kevin Smith discussing his odd observations of Jason Mewes on the set of “Zach and Miri Make a Porno.” [Spout]
