For many people, Nick Offerman will forever be Ron Swanson from “Parks and Rec.” However, the actor has made a name for himself over the years, picking interesting roles in small indie films, including last year’s “The Hero.” Now, it looks like he’s continuing that track record with his latest film “Hearts Beat Loud,” from the director of “The Hero,” Brett Haley.
In the first trailer for “Hearts Beat Loud,” we meet single dad, and struggling record store owner, Frank (Offerman). One of Frank’s real joys in life is playing music with his daughter, played by “Dope’s” Kiersey Clemons. Unfortunately, Frank’s daughter is about to go off to college and those music-playing days will be over. That is until Frank releases a song by the duo and it gains them a bit of recognition. The film looks to be a funny and charming film, led by a charismatic Offerman.
“Hearts Beat Loud” is co-written and directed by Haley, who is best known for the aforementioned “The Hero,” as well as “I’ll See You in My Dreams.” Joining Offerman and Clemons in the cast is Toni Collette, Sasha Lane, Ted Danson, and Blythe Danner, who has already collaborated with Haley on ‘See You.’
The film had its premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is getting a theatrical release beginning June 8.
Here’s the official Synopsis for the film:
In the hip Brooklyn neighborhood of Red Hook, single dad and record store owner Frank (Nick Offerman) is preparing to send his hard-working daughter Sam (Kiersey Clemons) off to college, while being forced to close his vintage shop. Hoping to stay connected through their shared musical passions, Frank urges Sam to turn their weekly “jam sesh” into a father-daughter live act. After their first song becomes an Internet breakout, the two embark on a journey of love, growing up and musical discovery.
