Henry Cavill Says 'Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice' Won't Correct 'Man Of Steel' Criticisms

Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of JusticeWhen Warner Bros. revived the Superman franchise via 2013’s "Man Of Steel," the reception was decidedly mixed, but most superhero fans fans were just glad it wasn’t "Superman Returns." But there more than a few aspects of the film that bothered fans. From Zack Snyder‘s color palette, to Superman’s decision to kill General Zod, to the endless carnage of the climatic battle in Metropolis, you don’t have to look far to find criticism about the film. And while you might think that Warner Bros., which is staking their DC Extended Universe movie franchise on Snyder, might address some of things that bothered fans the first time around, the Man Of Steel himself, Henry Cavill, says don’t count on it.

“The reception of my first Superman movie, from what I’ve read, was fairly mixed,” Cavill told Cineplex. “Everyone I’ve spoken to enjoyed the movie, but [not] unlike if you’re going to meet a stranger in the street, they’re not going to badmouth you to your face. There’s no intentional move, I don’t think, in ‘Batman v Superman’ to address any issues that people had with ‘Man of Steel.’ It’s just a continuation of that storyline, and they continue to develop that world and introduce new characters.”

That’s nothing else if not confident, and certainly what we’ve seen in the trailers so far with Doomsday thrashing around all over the place suggests that Snyder hasn’t changed his penchant for big, CGI addled mayhem.

Meanwhile, the director teases that Doomsday is just an appetizer for the bigger villain to come in the eventual two-part "Justice League," telling Obsev (via ScreenRant), “We’re working on ‘Justice League’ right now, right? In a weird way, ‘Justice League’ is the next step for these characters to form a bigger team. Maybe there’s a bigger enemy to fight.” So maybe those Darkseid rumors from forever ago are true?

We’ll see, but one step at a time… "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" opens on March 25th.
