Despite being Superman in two huge films, Henry Cavill has yet to become the household name. In between turns as the Man of Steel, Cavill just hasn’t had a hit, with “Immortals” bombing and “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” just falling under audience’s radar. Cavill is about to try once again to break into the mainstream by starring alongside Tom Cruise in “Mission: Impossible 6.”
The Superman actor has signed on to star next to Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, and Vanessa Kirby in the next installment of the hit spy franchise. Like “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” before it, the next “Mission: Impossible” film is set to be written and directed by frequent Cruise-collaborator Christopher McQuarrie.
Not much is known about the plot of the film just yet, but it’s safe to assume Cruise will have multiple scenes where he runs and dangles from something very high in the air. Cavill is rumored to play the right hand man to the head of Cruise’s unit in the film. Of course, in this franchise, Cavill could start as a member of Cruise’s unit and end up being the big bad of the film, so it’s anyone’s guess the extent of his role at this point.
“Mission: Impossible 6” opens on July 27, 2018. [Variety]
