'High Life' Trailer: Claire Denis Creates A Terrifying, Kinky Space Oddity With Robert Pattinson

Spanning four decades, the inimitable Claire Denis’ filmmaking career has long centered on the sensual, the cerebral, the mysterious and the inscrutable. All these elements and their enigmatic mixture are poured into her latest work, the rare genre film and unknowable sci-fi mindbender, “High Life” a kind of “2001: Space Odyssey” meets David Cronenberg and many a troubling moral implication.

Starring Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche, Mia Goth, André Benjamin (Andre 3000 from Outcast), “High Life” is a gnarly head trip; a thought-provoking film, that is sensuous, kinky, terrifying and brainy, but also a deep meditation on what it means to be human. And its stargazing beauty and repellant mix is definitely something we consider one of the best movies of 2019 we’ve already seen (at the Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival).

“High Life” is little bit of one of those film that you just have to experience to understand, or not understand, but be awed by its hypnotic delirium story which also could be seen as story about witches trying to harvest demon babies from slaves, but uhh, yeah, suffice to say, it’s out there.

Here’s the official synopsis from tastemaking studio A24 that is releasing the film in the Spring.

Monte (Robert Pattinson) and his baby daughter are the last survivors of a damned and dangerous mission to deep space. The crew—death-row inmates led by a doctor (Juliette Binoche) with sinister motives—has vanished. As the mystery of what happened onboard the ship is unraveled, father and daughter must rely on each other to survive as they hurtle toward the oblivion of a black hole. A staggering and primal film about love and intimacy, suffused with anguished memories of a lost Earth, High Life is a haunting, thrilling achievement from visionary director Claire Denis.
