In a summer dominated by superheroes and franchise films, Danny Boyle’s Beatles-inspired musical “Yesterday” is one of the season’s standout releases. Produced for a modest $26 million, “Yesterday” has gone on to earn more than $130 million worldwide, making its star Himesh Patel an actor to keep an eye on. And it appears that Patel is turning his newfound star power into a role in the upcoming Christopher Nolan film.
Variety is reporting that Patel is set to join the cast of the upcoming Christopher Nolan action film, “Tenet.” It seems as if Patel was able to find a place in the cast at the last moment, joining a star-studded affair that includes talent like John David Washington, Elizabeth Debicki, Robert Pattinson, Clémence Poésy, Dimple Kapadia, Michael Caine, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Kenneth Branagh.
Details about “Tenet” are scarce, but the teaser that was released in theaters (combined with the little knowledge that has been made public) has led people to believe that Nolan’s film is a spy thriller that may include some sort of sci-fi element, such as time travel. But that last bit is pure speculation.
What isn’t speculation is that “Tenet” is going to be an absolutely massive film. Nolan is one of the few directors that are able to take an original idea and turn it into a blockbuster, such as films “Interstellar,” “Inception,” and most recently, “Dunkirk.”
As mentioned, Patel is coming off the success of “Yesterday.” While he’s joining “Tenet,” which is already in production for a July 17, 2020 release date, Patel will next be seen later this year in the Amazon Studios film “The Aeronauts” alongside Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne. Even with those films under his belt, “Tenet” is likely going to be the biggest production Patel has ever been part of.
