Directors Hiro Murai & SJ Clarkson Team With ‘Maniac’ Creator For Two New Streaming Series For WarnerMedia

While many people think of Cary Fukunaga as the creative force behind the recent Netflix series “Maniac,” it was actually Patrick Somerville who created and produced the series. And based on the popularity of that series, combined with Somerville’s work on “The Leftovers” and “24,” the writer-producer has landed two new series that are being ordered for the fledgling WarnerMedia streaming service.

According to Deadline, Somerville has signed on to create two series, “Station Eleven” and “Made for Love” for WarnerMedia. And to sweeten the deal, he’s signed rising star directors Hiro Murai and SJ Clarkson to helm a series each.

Murai has been brought on to direct the pilot for the series “Station Eleven.” Described as a post-apocalyptic thriller, the series tells the story of a group of survivors that made it through a devastating flu-like plague and are now responsible for rebuilding the world. The series is based on the novel of the same name from author St. John Mandel. Murai is probably best known for his award-winning work on TV series “Atlanta” and “Barry.”

“Made for Love” is very much a different beast altogether. Clarkson is set to executive produce and direct the pilot for the series, which is based on the novel by Alissa Nutting. “Made for Love” follows Hazel Green, a thirty-something woman that has been on the run after leaving her terrible tech billionaire husband. Little does she know that he has gone ahead and implanted her with the Made for Love chip that allows him to track her, as well as monitor what she sees, hears, and feels. Clarkson is best known for her work on “The Defenders” and “Jessica Jones.” She was attached to “Star Trek 4,” but that was recently shelved. She’s about to begin production on the first episode of the upcoming “Game of Thrones” spin-off.

As mentioned, both series are set to be produced and showrun by Somerville and will be released on the upcoming WarnerMedia streaming service. Little is known about the details of the streaming service, other than the studio is lining up some incredible original programming and will also feature the extensive Warner Bros. media library.
