Hollywood Developing More Jack And The Beanstalk And Robin Hood Movies

Jack The Giant SlayerYou might remember a couple years ago, Warner Bros. rolled out the expensive and terrible flop "Jack The Giant Slayer." Following the misfire, a chorus of voices suddenly called out for somebody to try again because they didn’t get the fairy tale movie they thought the story deserved. Well, actually, that never happened, but Disney is pretending it did.

The studio has picked up an outline for "Beanstalk" by "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul" writer/creator Vince Gilligan, and have tasked him to write the script for a new, "revisionist take" (of course) on the fable. Gilligan may direct, too, but of course it’s still the early days. No plot details are available yet, so sit tight.

Meanwhile, the aforementioned WB is adding the pile-up of Robin Hood movies in development with yet another version, this one penned by Will Beall ("Aquaman," "Gangster Squad"). Same deal here, no plot details, but it joins Lionsgate‘s "Robin Hood: Origins" (lol), Disney‘s "Nottingham & Hood," and Sony‘s "Hood" in the arms race to reinvent the simple tale of the noble archer into a piece of cinema for the tentpole generation.
