Though originally thought of as a limited series, Amazon’s “Homecoming” became a bit of a hit for the streaming platform, with acclaim being given to series star Julia Roberts and co-creator Sam Esmail. And as we know, Hollywood isn’t known for letting critically-acclaimed hit series just die after one season. So, here we are, with the first teaser for a very different Season 2 of the drama series.

As seen in the trailer, Season 2 isn’t a direct continuation of the first batch of episodes. The new season is set up with a brand-new lead character, an amnesiac who wakes up in a rowboat adrift in a lake. And her journey to discover her identity and what led her to the rowboat is what draws her into the story of the Geist Group and the Homecoming Initiative.
The second season stars a predominantly new cast that includes Janelle Monáe, Joan Cusack, and Chris Cooper, alongside returning actors Stephan James and Hong Chau. Taking over directing duties from Esmail this season is “The Stanford Prison Experiment” filmmaker Kyle Patrick Alvarez.

In a new interview with EW, Monáe said, “It’s doing something that is unique in the television space. When I read these episodes, I was like, ‘Oh wow, this is still going to have a very special quality and take everyone in an unexpected place.’ It’s even more elevated this season — and even more suspenseful…Nothing is what it appears to be.”
“Homecoming” Season 2 will arrive on Amazon Prime Video on May 22.
