While “Spider-Man” might be getting a reboot with a new director, a younger cast and a fresh story, it looks like some habits are just too tough to give up on. Stan Lee is set to pop up in yet another Marvel movie for the five people who still get excited by spotting his well-groomed face dodging some debris or selling a hot dog. The comic icon hit Twitter over the weekend to announce the news.
“It’s been an exciting week for me, but I got a phone call last night that really flipped me out! I’m bustin’ to tell you about it–My pal Avi Arad, producer of the new Spider-Man movie, called to tell me how excited he is about the film. Then came the surprise—Avi told me my cameo is all set for Spidey 4, and when he described it, I realized it’s the best, most unusual one yet! I wish I could tell you what my cameo is, but that would kill the surprise. But I’ll tell you this much—I’m finally in an action scene!,” Lee posted over a number of tweets.
Well, thanks a lot Avi Arad. Keep in mind, Stan Lee also gets an executive producer credit on the film, so let’s not pretend he didn’t know he would be appearing in the film. At any rate, we don’t care, we find the cameos tiresome and really wish Stan Lee would stop mugging for the camera in these things. Because seriously, does anybody care? Sure, it was kind of cute the first time and every other time a pretty annoying ego boosting waste of time. And in case you’re wondering, yes, he’ll be cropping up at some point during “Thor” too. But hey, is this is the first time he’ll be in 3D? Looks like it.
“Spider-Man” — now with extra Stan Lee — opens on July 3, 2012.
